Handley Middle School
In my current hometown of Roanoke, AL I am an active volunteer at Handley Middle School where my mom is a part of the faculty as a Special Education Aid. I volunteer in the SPED department, the library and in the fourth-grade language arts classroom. Getting involved with a school in my hometown has been the best practice and professional experience I could have. I know every teacher and all the faculty members who work at the school; I would say that this is an advantage because I can go to them and ask them about any questions that I may have as a future teacher in my classroom setting. It is refreshing to have such a resource such as this to be involved in. Handley Middle School has been very beneficial to me as I progress through the education program at Auburn University.
I have learned a great deal while volunteering at HMS; I had the honor of completing my pre-teaching experience with Jenna Treadwell, the fourth-grade language arts teacher as I have a love for writing and English. I have gotten to teach the class and really involve myself with the students and get a up-close and personal feel with how it will be in the future when I become a licensed teacher for the state of Alabama.
